I usually laugh at food blogs. I kinda make fun of them.

I am also allergic to eggs and after getting really ill after a passover meal I decided to be seriously about it.

So, I started a food blog about not eating eggs. Not terribly exciting. A very "niche" topic, but I started it anyways. It's more for me in hopes of helping me with will power. I suck at that. Anyways, if you want to, feel free to check it out. If you don't want to, don't worry, I won't be offended. Also, feel free to comment. Maybe you have food allergies too so who knows it might be interesting. Like I said, it's mostly to *hopefully* help me with will power more than anything.

Apr. 27th, 2011 @ 06:48 pm Long time no write
Wow, I haven't written in this thing for a long time! Well, I haven't had too much to say I guess. I am still in Orange County and I am still a substitute teacher. When I am not hanging out with Matt I am usually with my friends Shawna or Valeri, and when I am with Valeri her kids are usually there too. I am finally starting to like living in Orange County and these friends have a lot to do with it. I still really miss Santa Cruz though. I miss seeing the ocean and redwoods just about every single day.

I have finally started to not feel so alone here.

May. 16th, 2010 @ 01:47 pm A conversation with a student
Student: Have you ever been to American Idol?

Me (aka Ms. Ko): No, I have never seen a taping of it.

Student: No, I meant have you ever been ON American Idol? Because you have the looks to win it.

Me in my head: Oh dear what does he want to get away with now?

Current Mood: cheerfulcheerful
The following conversation happened after I coughed up a lung. The comment I made about some third graders was about the class I had to observe last week for my credential program.

Student- "Ms. K, Did we make you sick?"

Me-"No, the third graders I hung out with last Thursday did."

Student-"Maybe you are allergic to little kids"

Later in the day I walked up to a group of students talking instead of working. Then this happened:

Me-"Do you guys need some help?"

Student A-"Are you Italian?"

Me-"No, why?"

Student B-"Your last name"

Me-"No, it's Chinese."

*Four faces stare blankly at me*

Me-"My husband is Chinese"

Group in unison-"Ooooooooo"

Feb. 22nd, 2010 @ 12:34 pm I need to update more
I need to start updating more, especially since I work at a high school now and have plenty of stories. For example, Friday I subbed for two, yes TWO, classes AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. It actually went very well. Now that things are interesting again, I will try harder to get this thing going for thw three people out there that still read this.

Dec. 18th, 2009 @ 05:05 pm Wedding stuff
I bet that title surprised you! Anyways... I have just been asked to be the Matron of Honor in a wedding this summer.

I need your help. The only weddings I have ever been in have been as a bride and as a flower girl. I have never even been a bridesmaid. So.... what do I do? My sister was my maid of honor but didn't do anything because of her work schedule. Basically, she tried on the dress and then showed up the day of. I want to help my friend plan it, even though we live far apart.

Nov. 3rd, 2009 @ 04:46 pm School
Starting in a couple of weeks I am going to be a full time grad student! Because of CSUMB and getting set up with them this last fall, I had everything I could possibly need to get everything set up. Now, all of a sudden, I am registered for classes, dealing with finical aid, and even have my ID card! On top of all of this, I hope to be working as a substitute teacher for a school district that is a bit of a drive away. At least school is in the middle geographically.

Good bye social life.

Oct. 22nd, 2009 @ 12:33 pm Half Marathon
I completed a half marathon!! It was this last Sunday in SF. It was just crazy but a ton of fun. There were 20,000 people who did the event (combined half and full marathons). I ran 9 miles but then hurt my knee going down a hill. The last three miles took me an hour to walk. Over all my time sucked, but I did it! I would like to do it again. If it goes better than this last one I think I would like to try doing a full, just to say I did it. It was great seeing all of my old SC team mates again while we entertained people with our goofiness.

I still have some fund raising to do. I know you are probably sick of me asking, but what I don't raise by Nov 18 I have to pay for myself. Don't really have that much money... so, if you can, please consider donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through my website. Even if it's just $5, ever little bit helps.  The money does not only go to cancer research, it even goes to patients basically in the form of grants to help them pay their bills.

Please check it out, even if it's only a few bucks.  Every little bit helps and it's for a wonderful cause!

Aug. 22nd, 2009 @ 11:00 am Class sizes
Current Mood: infuriatedinfuriated

There are kindergarten classes in the city of Watsonville with 40 kids. FORTY KIDS! Before you think "isn't that illegal" IT IS! Pajaro Valley School district laid-off 48 kindergarten and third grade teachers to save money. It was in the paper a while back that the fines for having too many kids in a class 3rd grade and below are less than the salaries for those teachers. This was supposed to result in class sizes only being up 2 to 5 kids. I could handle 25 kindergarteners. BUT FORTY!!!

Honestly, I am so pissed off right now it is hard for me to think in an articulate manner. I was supposed to start student teaching in this school district next week. That's not happening now because of the move, but I am glad I am not going to have to deal with it now.
